END OF SEASON DINNER DANCE

National Cup Round 1

Basford & Welwyn through to the next round of the National Cup.
Due to their ever growing injury list, Both Basford & Welwyn Warriors have entered this year's National cup competition by combining forces with the approval of the RFUW.
The first round match yesterday afternoon at Hobbs Way, saw Basford-Welwyn pitched against one of the upcoming sides in the South, Reading. Warriors had beaten Reading 46-0 earlier this season but Reading had provided a far sterner test than that scoreline suggested. Only last weeek they had beaten Basford so a tough encounter was expected.
It turned out not to be! Although this was the first time Basford &Welwyn had played together, the girls were familiar with each other from plaing in the East of England regional side. Basford & Welwyn ran out comfortable winners 64-0.
Basford's Sarah Carmen broke through the Reading defence time & again to set up tries for the supporting players. Springbok Frankie Dawson claimed the first 2, Hannah Marques the third, Warriors Skipper Hannah Gallagher notched a couple as well as kicking 7 conversions. Basford's Emily Scott grabbed a brace as did Warrior's Alex Robertson and Sarah Carmen claimed a well deserved solo try.
Team Manager Dave Marques was delighted. “'We nearly had to pull out of the tournament as our injury list kept getting longer but Basford kindly agreed to pool resources with us and that meant extra rugby for the girls in both teams, without their help our girls would have had to sit this wekend out. Regional RFUW Coach Andrew Skipper was here today and several of the girls must have caught his eye as they put in some great performances!'
